Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, is a mermaid who dreams of living in the human world. Despite her father’s warnings, she saves Prince Eric from a shipwreck and falls in love with him. To be with Eric, Ariel makes a deal with Ursula, the sea witch, trading her voice for human legs. Ariel must receive a kiss of true love from Eric within three days, or she will belong to Ursula forever.

Ariel and Eric grow close, but Ursula, disguised as Vanessa, uses Ariel’s voice to enchant Eric into almost marrying her. Ariel’s friends break the enchantment, and Eric realizes Ariel is his true love. In the final battle, Eric and Ariel defeat Ursula. King Triton, seeing Ariel’s love for Eric, transforms her into a human permanently. The story ends with Ariel and Eric’s wedding, uniting their two worlds.
